Trustworthiness is a quality that prevents one from trampling on other people’s rights. An Ameen is a trustworthy person whom other people trust and leave their belongings with him to keep.
The Holy Quran in different verses praises trustworthiness and rejects its opposite, which is untrustworthiness and betraying the trust of others.
“Believers, do not betray Allah and the Messenger, nor knowingly betray your trust.” (Verse 27 of Surah Al-Anfal)
The importance of this issue as a moral quality is such that six of the prophets whose story is mentioned in the Quran have been described as trustworthy: Prophet Noah (Verse 107 of Surah Ash-Shu’ara), Prophet Hud (Verse 125 of Surah Ash-Shu’ara), Prophet Salih (Verse 143 of Surah Ash-Shu’ara), Prophet Lut (Verse 162 of Surah Ash-Shu’ara), Prophet Shuaib (Verse 178 of Surah Ash-Shu’ara) and Prophet Moses (Verse 18 of Surah Ad-Dukhan). These prophets would tell people: “I am a trustworthy Messenger sent to you.” (Verse 125 of Surah Ash-Shu’ara)
Imam Sajjad (AS) underlined the importance of keeping one’s trust and said: “If the killer of my father deposited with me the sword with which he killed him, I would give it to him.”
Trustworthiness is importance in three areas:
1- Trustworthiness in obeying God’s commandments, fulfilling one’s duties and not committing sins with the body that God has given us.
2- Trustworthiness in interacting with other people.
3- Trustworthiness in doing what is good for one’s own life in this world and the hereafter.
When trustworthiness dominates a society, it will bring peace of mind for all people.
